What more could the industry ask for from such a beauteous young woman who is confident about her character, who strives to be different; who can make any head turn in any direction — even on a dull day.
So get your plus-vision on, because she’s going to create a whirlwind of noise across the globe.
We are pleased to announce that a new member joined our team. His name is Justin J. White and he is an author from London. He is a diligent person who not only fights for what he believes in, but lives to write and tell captivating stories from many point of views. His writing style is one of a kind; something that will leave you wanting more. He already published a book called ‘Lawful Enlightenment – The Path to a Rewarding Relationship‘. His amazing book is available through a free download here.
I am Justin J. White, a fearless soul lover of Plus-Size women, the look beyond my eyes that reaches into my soul gave me an insight to what I desire, and seeing these women all around me motivates me to talk about them.
The Plus-Size industry longed for this success — when will we see Plus-Size models on the front of well-known magazine covers? One that over emphasises that for woman to look beautiful she must look a particular way, perhaps slender with long legs and hardly any meat on her bones which was somewhat, “The industry standard.” Not in my eyes, there was no substance and no chemistry that allowed these comely women to aspire towards that direction, self-destruction is what I call it. As you know, the size 0 to 6 hip/waistline which was the industry standard and anything above was considered Plus-Size. Well, let me keep it real, Plus-Size with “Childbearing hips,” is not sinful however, what defines a real woman is being the gender of a woman and not by the size of her body.
Plus-Size women did not let the industry kill their vibe, they hanged on in there, pushed through with confidence which brought them to the level of becoming fearless strutting down the aisle with strong looks on their faces. They were on a whole new level and still are, creating their own shows, developing sexy well-fitted clothes that wrap perfectly around their bodies. Just a little more pushing for the voluptuous women and one came through, that was Ashley Graham who is now on the Swimsuit issue cover magazine. It was very hard, a lot of work, blood sweat and tears — not literally, although you know what I mean do not get your undies in a twist, there is more to come, and let us hope it will not be long until we see another Plus-Size curvaceous queen hit the catalogue. Victoria’s secret perhaps? Who knows but it is coming, I believe it will, I have faith, that one day all women will be treated equally regardless of the size of their waistline, and let us not forget their height, but that is another story. Until then, let us praise the queens of the curves who sit on the opposite end of the throne, who are not scared to parade regardless of what barriers are up against them.
Furthermore, this is why I love Plus-Size women, because they are not afraid to be the sassy-strong women they desire to be with the criticism around, they are not afraid of what it takes for people to accept them for who they are. They will not change for anyone, even if it takes for them to be subjected to a dense category of different women blocked off from the whole entire world, they will still strive for what they believe in.
Strong is bold, strong is confident, strong is sexy, and that’s why I will always be attracted to their inner and outer persona.
As someone who is already a fan of his book and who admires his writing, I am happy to have him in my team. Justin can write about all kind of topics from a man’s view, which will surely be interesting to read. Furthermore, as a personal trainer he can even bring in his knowledge on fitness and a healthy lifestyle.
When dreams come true! I can only imagine how happy Ashley Graham will be feeling right now. She just announced a hour ago that she will be an official Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model for this year. She will be in the selection for Rookie of the Year 2016 and yes, we can all vote for her to help her win this award. At the moment you can only see the models from 2015, if the voting is online we will share with you the link.
It is amazing to see all the things Ashley Graham achieves in her career. Although she was only included in the Sports Illustrated magazine as a commercial for Swimsuits For All, for us she is still the FIRST curvy model to be seen in this magazine.
At least this year she can also become an official model for it.
The last thing I heard about Rachel Roy was that her fashion label had some trouble. But today’s news, that she will also offer a plus size collection in 2016, is great news to me. This is such a great decision of her to make. This way she can add more new consumers to her brand. The plus size collection will offer clothes from sizes 14 – 24. She choosed Candice Huffine as her model.
When asked about why she wants to offer plus size clothes now by Refinder29, Rachel answered this:
“My customers have actually been asking me for years for plus-size, which we like to call ‘curvy.’ I think [the term] is just more modern and doesn’t sound as old-school. We wanted to do it for a long time and now just made sense.
“It’s not that it’s any different [than the regular line], it’s just that we got the fit right. And as soon as I could pull together the correct team to do that, we did it. I believe an in-house team has to work with it, hands on it, try it on, and ask questions until everyone’s comfortable. I mean, we have the designs, that’s not a problem. It’s just getting the correct fit, so it’s what people want to wear.”
I told you already that this year will be even more amazing than the news of last year. And I must admit, that I see everyday some great new information to share with you. Now I am sure after all the stress she had with her ex-husband and former business partner, that this time it’s going to be a lasting success.
So never give up and always remember to love yourself and to love your body!
The year 2015 was already a great year for curvy women. So many things happend that we never thought were possible a few years ago. But they happened and they changed important things regarding the perception of curvy women.
FIRST LET’S SEE WHAT HAPPENED IN 2015:
ASHLEY PART 1 – ASHLEY GRAHAM WAS THE FIRST PLUS SIZE MODEL TO BE FEATURED IN SPORTS ILLUSTRATED
‘I know my curves are sexy and I want everyone else to know that theirs are too.
‘There is no reason to hide and every reason to flaunt. The world is ready for more curves in bikinis.
‘Swimsuitsforall helps women feel confident and sexy in swimsuits and I am so thrilled to be a part of the Curves in Bikinis campaign!’ ~Daily Mail
Even though Ashley was only seen on an advert in the magazine and her fellow model Robyn Lawley became the first official curvy model to work for Sports Illustrated Swimsuit, for me her breackthrough is more important since she is bigger than Robyn.
ASHLEY PART 2 – ASHLEY GRAHAM COLLECTION ON THE NEW YORK FASHION WEEK FOR ADDITION ELLE
Now some people might hint out that this is not high fashion and these things don’t belong to the New York Fashion Week. I disagree! Every company that can pay the price of being part of the NY Fashion Week has to gain our respect for that, because it is a really expensive investment. And they would not be the only company making an overpriced show just to sell later “cheap” clothes. Just think about the money Victoria Secret spends on their show each year. The most expensive item on the show is only a bra with diamonds on it. The other lingerie is actually very cheap – just look at their website: https://www.victoriassecret.com/.
ASHLEY PART 3 -#IMNOANGEL & #PLUSISEQUAL BY LANE BRYANT
Let’s face it, Ashley Graham is the TOP CURVY MODEL of our time! She was already in the news with her first lingerie advertisement years ago, which was banned later. And she will always be in the news with any new campaign or collection she is doing, because she works with the right companies who know you need a message to sell your products. Lane Bryant is one of these great companies who had two important campaigns running to increase the media attention for plus size women. With these campaigns all the big magazines wrote about her, even the Vogue Magazine.
TESS HOLLIDAY GETTING SIGNED BY MILK MODEL MANAGEMENT AND APPEARING IN PEOPLE MAGAZINE
This news was, for a model like me, just great to read. Tess Holliday is as tall as I am with almost the same size and she still got signed by Milk Model Management Agency. Robyn Lawley is also under this UK agency. So she is in good company! Tess is the plus model with the most likes on all social media pages, because she is not scared to be controversial. She might get bullied a lot, but this is what helped her to succeed!
#BEACHBODYNOTSORRY WITH DENISE BIDOT FOR SWIMSUITSFORALL
After the #CURVESINABIKINI campaign with Ashley Graham, Swimsuits For All decided to make another campaign called #BEACHBODYNOTSORRY. They choosed for this curvy model Denise Bidot and showed a promo of her without any editing of the skin. They showed her natural body. We have to accept that every curvy body has flaws like cellulitis. But this doesn’t mean that a model like Denise is less good. She has proved for many years that she is a great model!
“There is no wrong way to be a woman” ~ Denise Bidot
See here our former post about the campaign here. And here is our album on facebook of fans supporting the campaign.
“It’s nice to see how much the mainstream fashion community has been so accepting of it,” ….”It’s very exciting to see that folks finally want to make plus-size mainstream.”~Skorch Magazine and People Magazine
Adele had her comeback finally after all those years of being outside the public. Adele does not only have one of the best voices from the UK, but she is also already a plus size celebrity icon and I was so happy to see that she is back. Her song “HELLO” is still everywhere in the news and I know some of you can’t even hear it anymore. Well, I don’t care. Her album was breaking selling records already in the first week. She even managed to get her first Time Magazine cover, so her comeback is a huge success after all.
GREAT THINGS THAT ALREADY HAPPENED IN 2015 BUT THAT WILL ALSO EFFECT 2016:
AMY SCHUMER AND SERENA WILLIAMS FEATURED IN THE PIRELLI CALENDAR
I loved the most that they showed the women in a natural and rather simple photographic way to show their natural personality. Especially the picture of Amy Schumer is ground-breacking in the fashion world. For so many years we are used to photoshop all flaws of women. And even women who didn’t like their body wanted to get photoshopped. But Amy Schumer didn’t mind to show her natural stomach. It only shows that it is all natural to have a stomach nowadays. Watch also the Behind the Scene video:
CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN CASTS CURVY MODEL CLEMENTINE DESSEAUX
A post shared by Christian Louboutin (@louboutinworld) on
Now a lot of great things happened already this year for curvy models, but having a model Clementine Desseaux as the face of the beauty range Rouge Louboutin by Christian Louboutin is almost ground-breacking. Critics said that it doesn’t matter if she became the face of the lipstick promo, because she only has to feature her face not her body. But I have to say that it is a great achievement for a curvy model. Clementine’s unique look with her curves and her freckles symbolizes in a perfect way natural beauty. And even if she doesn’t show her curves in this spot you can still see a face of a size 14 model and not a size 0 model. I think that Christian Louboutin made the most perfect choice to have her as the rolemodel for his beauty brand.
Just before the year 2015 was over the next amazing headline appeared. And I thought it can’t get any better. I am glad that I was wrong. Beth Ditto announced that she will bring out her own first plus size collection in co-operation with Jean Paul Gaultier. Now we already know that Jean Paul loves all women, no matter what size or age they have since even our curvy idol Velvet D’Amour was walking for him years ago.
But making a collection with Beth Ditto clearly is an amazing thing. The design they choosed is a t-shirt collection with the famous corset by Jean Paul Gaultier worn by Madonna – like in this link.
Sure the big t-shirt might not be figure-enhancing, but you can still ake it more tight in the back. Overall I must say the idea is great, funny and has a great fashion rock style. I would surely want to wear it!
GREAT THINGS HAPPENING IN GERMANY FOR 2016:
SILVANA DENKER’S #BODYLOVE CAMPAIGN CONTINUES AND GOES INTERNATIONAL
We already asked you to support the #BODYLOVE campaign by Silvana Denker. And the reason for this is that she needs to finance her trips all by herself. To make Silvana’s dream come true to go international show your support here.
Her campaign got international attention by the media already. This shows how much people want to see natural women. Therefore I am sure with our support she will change the minds of the people worldwide. And we totally want to see more news of #bodylove like in the collection below.
Plus Size Fashion Days already had a special award ceremony during the show in 2015. And I think it is a great idea to award the best blogger, the best fashion brand and the best plus size model national and international.
The show developed from a idea by CEO and Founder Tanja Marfo 3 years ago. I attented every show since then. I can tell you it got better every year. Therefore I am excited to see how much better it will become in 2016.
All the headlines from last year show that the fashion world finally recognizes plus size women as an important target. We are new hip and trendy, so either you follow us or use us for your promotion or you will be regarded as old-fashioned. And no teen likes old-fashioned stuff. The future for curvy women is bright and I am sure more brands will understand this in the near future!
Have a good time and always remember to love your body and love yourself,
I am thrilled to see how the most wanted plus size brand of the US featured a size 28 model for their newest lookbook. The plus size brand Eloquii started to feature bigger models for their lookbooks. This time they show plus model and blogger Emmicia Bracey. Though it’s not the first time they featured bigger sizes, it is for me the first time I saw it. And I loved it!
If you ask me plus size brands should present more plus size women who are above size 16 also. I don’t want to exclude the smaller plus sizes, I just want to include the queen size women.
Why is this still so difficult to do?
Eloquii found them by asking bloggers to do this. Is this such a bad thing?
Honestly, bloggers are called the new fashion superstars for a good reason. Bloggers like me and many others we know how to pose. We try new poses with every look and we grow through our blogs. Bloggers are not only already proffessional enough to work with, but we represent also the real consumer. Mainly because we also consume like all the others. 😉 But yes, I like the idea of fashion brands using bigger sizes for their lookbook.
Eloquii is not the only brand who already did this. See below pictures of Tess Holliday who became a model for Monif C and pictures of German bloggers who presented their own designs for the brand Studio Untold.
Monif C is without any doubt also very trendy and everyone wants their looks, even we in Germany. Monif C and Eloquii proved both to be a hit for the consumers, because of their tredy styles.
Studio Untold is a new German plus size brand which is also very trendy. Studio Untold asked several German bloggers to design outfits for them and the result are 5 great looks. Some of the bloggers like Theodora Flipper, Conquore · The Fatshion Café and Lisa Mosch are even some of my favorite bloggers from Germany. I can already predict that they will become Germany’s answer for Eloquii and I am very excited about it.
Dear owners of plus size brands, please don’t be afraid to present bigger sizes in your lookbook. Your consumers will not hate or criticize you so much for this. They will rather think: “WOW, I am so happy to see a woman in my size wearing the dress I always liked from this brand.” And then the consumer will think that the model still looks great even with her big tummy. And that is so much more important in gaining trust! This was just an example, but as a consumer I know how other women feel.
Style & Curve stands for plus size diversity, therefore we want to feature different sizes in the upcoming magazine issue. I hope many more brands will also change their way of thinking and start to understand that fashion is for all sizes, all ages, all nationalities, all religions… – ALL WOMEN LOVE FASHION!
Cheers from Lyz Lupo :*
I shared on Style & Curve the newest post of blogger Lu zieht an, where she tells her opinion about the #BeachBodyNotSorry campaign from swimsuitsforall a few weeks ago already. But since we changed the website, it was gone. This is now the #Repost.
Here is what she said:
“The → #BeachBodyNotSorry campaign by swimsuitsforall is probably the best thing of the whole year. Denise Bidot is one of my favorite plus models, she’s just gorgeous! Not only is she beautiful but also a mother, so her body has already gone through a wonderful story of love. So there are a few “love marks” (yes, I want to call them that!) on her tummy. She also has cellulite like probably everybody on this planet (yes, even boys and men can have it!). swimsuitsforall did this “Beach Body. Not Sorry.” campaign with her and used absolutely no Photoshop. And OMG – she’s looking sooo hot! I don’t even look at any “imperfections” (why would we call them that?), all I see is one of the world’s most beautiful women, wearing sexy swimwear … and looking like a goddess in bikinis and swimsuits.” read more here: http://luziehtan.de/2015/07/beachbodynotsorry/
And what Lu writes is exactly what I also think about this campaign. This campaign was made to empower plus women and it is the response of the promotion of Protein World called “Are you beach body ready?”, which basically pissed everyone off.
Well, swimsuitsforall created then the hashtag #curvesinabikini and curvy fans shared pictures of them in a bikini. It started with this picture of Ashley Graham:
The social community likes to use the hashtag #curvesinabikini, but I see no one posting a pic with the hashtag #beachbodynotsorry. And we think something should change about this.
THAT’S WHY STYLE & CURVE WANTS TO SUPPORT THE #BEACHBODYNOTSORRY CAMPAIGN AND ASKS YOU TO SHARE YOUR SWIMSUIT PICTURES WITHOUT ANY EDITING OR PHOTOSHOP AND THE HASHTAGS:
The pictures that include our name will get shared on our page. Or you can email it to us to styleandcurve.com.
I love the power of social media and I hope you also think that we need more women who are proud of their “love marks”. I also shared some pictures like this on my blog Curvy Style Rocks:
THERE IS NO REASON TO HIDE YOUR BODY!
THERE IS NO REASON TO BE INSECURE!
ONLY YOU DECIDE IF YOU LISTEN TO THE NEGATIVITY OF OTHER OR NOT!
START LOVING YOUR BODY TODAY AND SEND YOUR #BeachBodyNotSorry picture to styleandcurve.com!
We finish our appeal with the beautiful Denise Bidot for swimsuits for all and her words to each one of you:
“There is no wrong way to be a woman”
SEE HERE ALL THE CURVY WOMEN WHO ALREADY SEND US THEIR PICTURE TO SHARE IT ON OUR FACEBOOK PAGE:
There should be more picture of plus size women showing their natural beauty. We have been like this for thousand of years, now the fashion industry also has to accept this and accept our natural bodys.
We hope the #BeachBodyNotSorry campaign gives you more confidence to accept your body, to love your natural body and to help you develop body confidence.
We are having a new model spotlight feature for you. This time it is NEDRA PHILIPS from Atlanta, USA.
1. How did you got into modeling?
A friends told me about this plus size contest that she insisted that I try out for. So I did and I found a whole new world and have been modeling since 09.
2. What do you habe to do with Arden’s Closet?
Arden’s Closet is actually my company. It is a pull closet for styling real size women for events, photo shoots or just everyday wear. I also offer personal shopping and Closet’s Cleanups. Every 3mths Arden’s Closet puts on a Sip n’ Swap where the FAB Plus Fashionistas of Atlanta get together and sip on Moscato and swap gently used or new clothing, shoes, hand bags and accessories.
3. Do you also offer shipping? In which countries?
No Arden’s Closet doesn’t provide shipping but when I have the yearly closet cleanup I do put Items up for sale and will ship anywhere.
4. What are your wishes for 2014?
In 2014 I want to push my self to the next level and work out side my box.
5. What was your best and worst experience in your life?
The worst thing that I have ever experienced in my life is losing my father at the age of 13. The best experience is when I realize that I have the best mother in the world and she is my best friend.
6. What do you like about yourself the most and what do you hate about yourself?
I love my determination the will to keep going even though people think I shouldn’t. I hate that I wear my emotions on my shelves.
7. Do you think the plus size industry need some more inprovement? which ones?
I feel this industry is improving but I wish the industry was more open to petite plus models in high fashion and mainstream and would not be so quick to shut you down because of your height.
8. What do you like about Style.& Curve?
I really enjoy Style & Curve because it celebrates women with curves in a positive way. It shows that women with curves have beauty & Style!!
An agency in Montreal spotted me at the age of 16 years for the regular size category. But physically, I was unable to hold this shape and weight. So few years after, I applied for the Plus size division! I’m completely in love with this category!
2. Was this also what you always wanted to do? Did you study? what?
Since the age of 4, I knew deeply that I want to be a model. I always liked to be filmed and play the star in front the camera. For me this is the ideal time to let me go, fall into my magical world and share it with the world. 🙂
3. Why do you regard yourself as a plus size model?
I consider myself as being a plus size, because I have curves. I have a refined waist and predominant hips. I wear 14 and I train regularly to be FIT. Being plus size does not mean necessarily, say (Big), but voluptuous to me and comfortable in their own skin. Personnaly, it simply leads to be healthy, well in my body and God knows I eat as I please… lol
4. What are your wishes for 2014?
WOW, this is a very good question. I like that. Firstly, I want to develop myself. I am a woman who works a lot on me. I like to learn about myself. I love meeting new people who have full of motivation, inspirations, desires ,always in search of success to excel and become better. So, I wantto travel, meet positive people, reinforce my relationships with my loyal contacts and being recognized of my good work. 🙂
5. What was the best thing that happend to you?
There are many good things that happening to me. The birth of my son was one of the greatest moments in my life. A tuning point was beginning. There was also the day i choosed to get involved in fashion completely and doing nothing else than FASHION!! A big jump when you are a single mom.
6. What was the worst thing that happend to you?
When my father was diagnosed with a Lungs Cancer in 1998 and thereafter he survived 3 recurrences. He’s alive and I am very proud of him.

7. What do you like about Style & Curve?
Style & Curve is a young Magazine. The structure is hypper professional.Their choice of publication is always on point and classy. Their posts and interviews are interesting and amazing. The Chief editor is warm, friendly and social with everybody . No discrimination for anybody. I like her and love Style & Curve.
1. How did you became a plus model?
I started in the fashion industry as a make up artist, one day my friend told me about a contest to become the next plus size model in Montreal and said I should go try it out. So that’s what I did, I showed at the contest with no expectations and I was in the final 10…. And finaly win the contract with the model agency. 2. Was this also what you always wanted to do? Did you study? What?
I never really tought I will became a model one day. I was always behind the camera. I always been an artistic person but my parents always wanted me to study and go to university. So that’s what I did, I went to school to do a bachelor in fashion marketing. I hated it… that was not really my thing but I wanted to be proud of myself by accomplishing and finishing something. I’m now in the proccess of finishing my master in communication. My subject is actualy the identity of plus size and regular model in the fashion world.
3.What would you respond to the current discussion about size 8 models presenting plus size fashion and to the people who say they are not even plus models?·
Plus size fashion is a relativly new trend and I think people don’t really understand it. There is different categories in the cast plus size. I think and it’s regarding the size zero of the «normal» model. So everything above that would be called plus size. I’m not a size 20 either and people sometime told me I was not a real plus size… I have real problems to find stores and places that would sell pants and jeans that will actually fit me. There is girls with bigger breast, belly or legs… every woman is beautiful in a special way and that is what we need to have in mind.
4. Why do you regard yourself as a plus model?
I think I look at my self as a model, I’m proud to reprensent my curves. I want to show the world I have curves and I’m proud of them so everyone should embrace themself and be confident as they are.
5. Did you ever got bullied for your curves?
I called myself a plus-size but it’s just for the industry. I consider my body curvyliscious and that’s it. But it was not always been that way. I’ve been victim of intimidation when I was in elementary school. I was then obligated to construct a shell around me and grow stronger… and that’s what I did. So in secondary school, I went to a private school…. I gain on courage and made a lot of friend but I know I was different; all my friends was wearing 3-4 and sometime 0 of pants and skirt size… but I was wearing a size 8-9… at that time I thought I was fat and I wanted to look just like them. I wasn’t comfortable with myself and never realize that I was just normal and that I was really taller then all of them. It took my years to realize that I was proud of my curves and how I look and that most of the time, it’s society that make people feel bad about themselves. I’m now a sexy size 14 and it took me 50 pounds heavier to realize it. I like my body «as is» because that is who I am. I don’t want to change it, I don’t want to do diet, I just want people to respect me as I am. I think that is what make me beautiful, it’s because I like myself as I am and that can be disturbing for other people to see someone just comfortable in their own skin. So it took me year to realize it but now I’m happy.
6. What would you say to young girls who got bollied for their curves?
Been bollied teach me one thing, to be stronger. I stopped to focus on what those bad people told me and said to myself that i needed to show them I was better then that. Beauty is not only from inside, but in you’re mind. I’ve met a lot of people that emanate charisma and that is what make them crazy beautiful.
7. What do you like about Style & Curve?
The fact that you represent really confident women from around the world. Fashion is hard game, specially in the plus size section and Style & Curve do it differently and in a great way.
The pics in the interview are from a special editional she did.
Hello Beautiful models and fans of Style & Curve. It’s Angelita Aronce Sorensen here with my first weekly blog of 2014. First I want to take a moment to apologize for not posting a blog the last 4 weeks. I was very ill and hospitalized for a week and I was on the road to recovery but now I’m much better and I’m back! Being the second day of 2014 I thought I would reflect on the wonderful opportunities and amazing things that have happened in 2013. I believe I’ve already mentioned in a previous blog that I started my modeling and acting career at age 41. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that I would be as successful as I’ve been and 2013 was definitely a wonderful year for me.
I’ve acted in several great films starting 2013 off with filming the feature film “Zombie Prombie” in the role of Nurse Abby and although it’s still in postproduction you can find some info on it here. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Zombie-Prombie The next feature film I worked on right after that was H.O.A. Havoc starring Daniel Baldwin and my character is Flatula. It was a fun and comedic role and this film is also in postproduction and I even performed a scary stunt but it was well worth it. A short film that I was part of and actually filmed in 2012, “The Symphony of Silence” in the role of Ana , a mother who goes after her son’s bully won the Platinum Remi Award at 2013 Worldfest-Houston International Film Festival.
I also starred in my first music video by Mallorie, the song is called “Imagine” and it is such a beautiful Military inspired Love Song. It was such an honor when I was contacted and asked to be part of this project. Mallorie wanted a real military couple so I my husband was my co-star in this music video. I was also involved with NDG Productions and was part of four commercials for various free family events for The Thingamajigy Fayre, SciFest 2013, Monstercon 2013
, and Nerdtactular Holiday Bazaar 2013. I was also involved in other film projects ranging from commercial work to features and ranging from extra work to lead roles in 2013. You can find my IMDB page here: http://www.imdb.me/angelita.sorensen
Regarding modeling projects, I started off 2013 by gracing the cover of Latin Connection Magazine with a 3-page story inside. You can download a free digital copy or purchase a hard copy at this link. http://www.magcloud.com/browse/issue/550960 I was blessed to be part of a few print projects including the Timeless Beauty Book, featuring models over the age of 40 by the talented photographer Imiko. http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/invited/3474397/631f1c4f7ed92dffcbb85f099ba314b2d0766550 I was also Miss August in a calendar fundraiser project for Cancer Benefit , Empowering to Live and I’m finishing the year out with another calendar project called “Warmth for the Homeless” as Ms. May 2014. The proceeds will be used to purchase coats and blankets for the homeless in our community. The calendars are only $10 so feel free to contact me if you’re interested in supporting our cause and wish to purchase a calendar. Two of the most exciting things that happened with my modeling career in 2013 was being the July Profile Pic winner for CMR and I will be one of the 8 faces of Fashion A Go Go launching this plus size clothing line in Paris, April of 2014. I am in great company with some of the most beautiful international models! I am also one of the bloggers on Style & Curve fka Curvy Models Rocks. I have also modeled for quite a few photographers and ripped the runway in quite a few shows, many of them being charity fundraising fashion shows like the Fiesta Fierce Fashion Parade that benefited the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
In 2013, I also gave back to the community with organizations like NDG Heroes. I participated in several events with NDG Heroes to help raise money for children with devastating diseases. I also went to the children’s hospital to visit some of the children and knowing that they are suffering from horrible illnesses, seeing their faces light up when walking into their rooms was so rewarding. I was also involved with several other projects including “Women in Heels” an organization that is consistently giving back to the community and co-founded by one of my best friends, Valerie Anne Chavira-Luna. I also put together a fundraiser as Ms. Texas Plus Size Diva 2012/13 called TPSD Divas & Gents. It was a bachelor/bachelorette auction to raise funds for the TPSD organization and to benefit a family dealing with cancer. Daytime @ 9 in San Antonio even interviewed me on their show to promote the TPSD organization and to promote this fundraiser. I also mentor teenagers and women privately. Giving back is one of the most rewarding things that I have the privilege of doing.
2013 was an amazing year. I have a wonderful support systems, a family and husband who love and support me unconditionally and of course friends who also love and support me and mean the world to me. I’ve learned a lot, grown from all my experiences this past year whether they would good, bad or indifferent. For those of you who feel like your life is going nowhere, I can relate, I’ve been there and I can tell you that it’s up to YOU to change the direction of your life. YOU are the ONLY person who can make a difference in your life. Find your inner strength and understand that it is NOT too late to follow your dreams. Don’t let the “haters” bring you down. Smile and show them what you can do…that is the best “revenge” and Karma will take care of the rest. I guarantee that you will get many rejections but don’t allow that to stop you from chasing your dreams, whether it’s to be a model, an actress or anything else you choose to do in life. Don’t allow the negative people along the way bring you down and trust me; there will be negative people that will cross your path. Take control of your future, even if it means smashing through preconceived boundaries in this industry. Until next week, stay positive!
