This year’s Met Gala celebrated the designs of Rei Kawakubo‘s high fashion brand Comme des Garçons. An exhibition from May until September will continue to feature her, sometimes ‘distressed’ and ‘punk’ oriented, designs.
No wonder that some outfits seemed strange for us. To show you what I mean with that, I should present you the worst dressed list.
The worst dressed has been Katie Perry wearing a custom Maison Margiela piece, which was designed by John Galliano. That dress is scary, it reminded me of the Red Wedding from Game of Thrones. Madonna’s is from Moschino’s designer Jeremy Scott. Scott is famous for his crazy and colourful designs, but Madonna looked rather boring to me in this creation.
Helen Lasichanh, Pharrell Williams wife, and Caroline Kennedy both wore designs by Comme des Garcons. I added them to the worst dressed list, but I think they are less horrible then Katie’s and Madonna’s dresses.
I’m not surprised that she made it to the best dressed list, but Ashley Graham achieved that also because of the great work H & M did on her dress by staying true to her figure.
Zendaya is the second Lady who made it to our best dressed list. She looked like a princess in her colourful dress, which had parrots printed on it. The dress was designed by Dolce & Gabbana.
Serena Williams attended the gala with her fiancé Alexis Ohanian and Blake Lively with her husband Ryan Reynolds. They both wore Versace, but the reason I had to pick them for the cutest couple list is their happy faces. The only thing that is better than being happy at the beginning of your relationship, is when you are still happy years later.
THE MAKE-UP TREND – PINK HIGHLIGHTER ALL OVER
Even if you don’t believe me yet, you will see in the next days and weeks a lot of images and videos of artists re-creating this look. Rihanna rocked the pink highlighter look amazingly!
Plus, Rihanna is the only star who can make an over-the-top outfit look great. I don’t know how she does it, but I’ve got to tell you I love her for that. She also wore Comme des Garcons.
I know many of you will love the PINK HIGHLIGHTER look, therefore I searched for you for links where you can get them and what I found so far on Instagram to shop for you. I rather think she products she used is from her own Fenty Beauty brand, but those products aren’t available until September.
Have fun re-creating her look and don’t be shy. With this look you should go over-the-top like Rihanna.
That was it for our review. You might saw that we didn’t feature Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner or Kendall Jenner this time and the reason is that I didn’t like their outfits at all. None of the top social media models like Gigi Hadid, Bella Hadid or the other ones were chosen for this year’s list, because I am getting tired of the nude look in today’s fashion. I find images of women showing cellulite and stretch marks a lot more beautiful.
I woke up this morning with the news that two bombs exploded at 8 am at the Brussels Airport. Two hours later I made a post on our facebook page about the attacks. Since then I was in shock and I read about it on the daily mail page:
Cowering under desks and running for their lives, this is the terrifying moment passengers were caught up in a suicide bomb attack at Brussels Airport today in a series of blasts that have killed at least 34 people across the city.
Witnesses described apocalyptic scenes with blood and ‘dismembered bodies everywhere’ after two blasts rocked the terminal at around 8am (7am GMT), killing at least 14 people and injuring 35 others.
Then 79 minutes later at 9.19am, at least 20 people were killed and 55 injured, some critically, when a blast hit a Metro station just 400 metres from the EU headquarters in the city centre.
At the airport, there were reports of a firefight between police and the attackers who shouted in Arabic moments before detonating their bombs. A Kalashnikov was later recovered from the scene.
The blasts, which detonated near the American Airlines and Brussels airlines check-in desks, sent shockwaves through the terminal building, shattering windows and knocking roof tiles off the ceiling as terrified passengers ran for their lives.
The explosions have left countries worldwide reeling, with security placed on high alert, flights cancelled, Eurostar services suspended and France’s border with Belgium shut down.
Two suspects were arrested a mile from the Maelbeek metro station at around 11am as hundreds of troops and police flooded the streets of Brussels in the hunt for members of the terror cell.
Soldiers have been also been deployed at the airport and other key locations across Brussels as Belgium raised security to its maximum level.
The bombings come just a day after the Belgium Interior Minister warned of possible revenge attacks after the arrest of Paris massacre suspect Salah Abdeslam in the city on Friday.
The latest update I saw, was that 30 people were killed and at least 150 people were hurt. All information is subject to change at this moment. I also saw that that police catched two people, near the Malbeek train station where the third bomb detonated – see here. No one knows at the moment if there are more attackers on the run. All trains and flights have been cancelled. And I heard on the radio, how people living nearby help the victims or give them shelter. People are told to better stay at home.
And all I can ask myself, why did this happen? Why do we allow these evil people to destroy our lives? Why weren’t there more security people since they already expected attacks? But all these questions don’t change the situation.
Therefore, the Style & Curve team and our partners from ComeSeeTv would like to express our deepest condolences to the victims and hurt people and their familys. We don’t believe in revenge – Therefore we want to send our LOVE to all our fans and followers from Belgium and nearby.

I am glad to see all the solidarity, but I still need to stay quite for the rest of the day. It is really not easy to see this for me, I can only imagine how terrible it is for everyone directly involved.
We are praying for you and we support you – #jesuisbruxelles
Winning four awards at the Brit Awards must have been amazing for Adele. Her emotions went from surprise, to happyness, to crying of joy, to humble crying of winning so many awards to confidence of succeeding so well. I must say that I like Adele a lot. She is honest, she is friendly and she is real. She does not need to put up a show all the time, like many other ‘stars’.
Therefore we decided to show you the many faces of Adele from the Brit Awards last night in this album:

Here are also some quotes from her award speeches last night:
‘I’m really sorry about swearing earlier and I’m really sorry for the ugly crying face.
‘Thank you to the fans. I also want to give a massive thank you to my boyfriend, sorry I’m going to embarrass you. I’m so lucky to have you support me as you do.,, thank you for my lovely son, who is the love of my life. This is for you peanut!
‘I feel a bit worn out emotionally. It feels absolutely incredible. I was hoping to win one but to get that many was amazing. I’m very lucky.
‘Not bad for a girl from Tottenham who don’t like flying, Global Success!’ ~ Daily Mail
I agree, really not bad. Especially for a star who has over 1 Billion viewers for her video ‘HELLO‘ . Let’s wait and see how many Grammys she will get for her global success.
Enjoy below the video from her performance of her song “when we were young”:
Adele, we are honestly happy for your success and don’t ever think we might be too bored of you. You are so not boring. :*
Tuesday is our #StyleAndCurveSexy day. And we want to start the day with this quote by Style & Curve contributor Country Bombshell“the first Croatian plus size model Lucija Lugomer is simply stunning!”
I have to agree with my contributor. Furthermore, I am happy to see that there is finally a plus size model also in Croatia. It all starts slowly, but every country will start to develop a plus size community in the near future. And it is important to raise awareness for curvy women.
Lucija Lugomer knows this and fights for all curvy women who accept their natural body and refuse to loose weight for others:
‘For some I am too fat, for others too thin. Some even say that I am ugly, but I manage to overcome all of that.’…‘I love my body as it is and I don’t listen to critics. I needed time to accept my body. As a teenager, I was the most developed and there were many jokes on my account and it was not easy for me.’
‘I am happy to be able to break the prejudices surrounding women’s bodies. After I came on the scene there were many girls with plus sizes calling the agency, interested in becoming a model like I am.
‘People should get used to being open and honest.’ ~ Daily Mail
The year 2015 was already a great year for curvy women. So many things happend that we never thought were possible a few years ago. But they happened and they changed important things regarding the perception of curvy women.
FIRST LET’S SEE WHAT HAPPENED IN 2015:
ASHLEY PART 1 – ASHLEY GRAHAM WAS THE FIRST PLUS SIZE MODEL TO BE FEATURED IN SPORTS ILLUSTRATED
‘I know my curves are sexy and I want everyone else to know that theirs are too.
‘There is no reason to hide and every reason to flaunt. The world is ready for more curves in bikinis.
‘Swimsuitsforall helps women feel confident and sexy in swimsuits and I am so thrilled to be a part of the Curves in Bikinis campaign!’ ~Daily Mail
Even though Ashley was only seen on an advert in the magazine and her fellow model Robyn Lawley became the first official curvy model to work for Sports Illustrated Swimsuit, for me her breackthrough is more important since she is bigger than Robyn.
ASHLEY PART 2 – ASHLEY GRAHAM COLLECTION ON THE NEW YORK FASHION WEEK FOR ADDITION ELLE
Now some people might hint out that this is not high fashion and these things don’t belong to the New York Fashion Week. I disagree! Every company that can pay the price of being part of the NY Fashion Week has to gain our respect for that, because it is a really expensive investment. And they would not be the only company making an overpriced show just to sell later “cheap” clothes. Just think about the money Victoria Secret spends on their show each year. The most expensive item on the show is only a bra with diamonds on it. The other lingerie is actually very cheap – just look at their website: https://www.victoriassecret.com/.
ASHLEY PART 3 -#IMNOANGEL & #PLUSISEQUAL BY LANE BRYANT
Let’s face it, Ashley Graham is the TOP CURVY MODEL of our time! She was already in the news with her first lingerie advertisement years ago, which was banned later. And she will always be in the news with any new campaign or collection she is doing, because she works with the right companies who know you need a message to sell your products. Lane Bryant is one of these great companies who had two important campaigns running to increase the media attention for plus size women. With these campaigns all the big magazines wrote about her, even the Vogue Magazine.
TESS HOLLIDAY GETTING SIGNED BY MILK MODEL MANAGEMENT AND APPEARING IN PEOPLE MAGAZINE
This news was, for a model like me, just great to read. Tess Holliday is as tall as I am with almost the same size and she still got signed by Milk Model Management Agency. Robyn Lawley is also under this UK agency. So she is in good company! Tess is the plus model with the most likes on all social media pages, because she is not scared to be controversial. She might get bullied a lot, but this is what helped her to succeed!
#BEACHBODYNOTSORRY WITH DENISE BIDOT FOR SWIMSUITSFORALL
After the #CURVESINABIKINI campaign with Ashley Graham, Swimsuits For All decided to make another campaign called #BEACHBODYNOTSORRY. They choosed for this curvy model Denise Bidot and showed a promo of her without any editing of the skin. They showed her natural body. We have to accept that every curvy body has flaws like cellulitis. But this doesn’t mean that a model like Denise is less good. She has proved for many years that she is a great model!
“There is no wrong way to be a woman” ~ Denise Bidot
See here our former post about the campaign here. And here is our album on facebook of fans supporting the campaign.
“It’s nice to see how much the mainstream fashion community has been so accepting of it,” ….”It’s very exciting to see that folks finally want to make plus-size mainstream.”~Skorch Magazine and People Magazine
Adele had her comeback finally after all those years of being outside the public. Adele does not only have one of the best voices from the UK, but she is also already a plus size celebrity icon and I was so happy to see that she is back. Her song “HELLO” is still everywhere in the news and I know some of you can’t even hear it anymore. Well, I don’t care. Her album was breaking selling records already in the first week. She even managed to get her first Time Magazine cover, so her comeback is a huge success after all.
GREAT THINGS THAT ALREADY HAPPENED IN 2015 BUT THAT WILL ALSO EFFECT 2016:
AMY SCHUMER AND SERENA WILLIAMS FEATURED IN THE PIRELLI CALENDAR
I loved the most that they showed the women in a natural and rather simple photographic way to show their natural personality. Especially the picture of Amy Schumer is ground-breacking in the fashion world. For so many years we are used to photoshop all flaws of women. And even women who didn’t like their body wanted to get photoshopped. But Amy Schumer didn’t mind to show her natural stomach. It only shows that it is all natural to have a stomach nowadays. Watch also the Behind the Scene video:
CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN CASTS CURVY MODEL CLEMENTINE DESSEAUX
A post shared by Christian Louboutin (@louboutinworld) on
Now a lot of great things happened already this year for curvy models, but having a model Clementine Desseaux as the face of the beauty range Rouge Louboutin by Christian Louboutin is almost ground-breacking. Critics said that it doesn’t matter if she became the face of the lipstick promo, because she only has to feature her face not her body. But I have to say that it is a great achievement for a curvy model. Clementine’s unique look with her curves and her freckles symbolizes in a perfect way natural beauty. And even if she doesn’t show her curves in this spot you can still see a face of a size 14 model and not a size 0 model. I think that Christian Louboutin made the most perfect choice to have her as the rolemodel for his beauty brand.
Just before the year 2015 was over the next amazing headline appeared. And I thought it can’t get any better. I am glad that I was wrong. Beth Ditto announced that she will bring out her own first plus size collection in co-operation with Jean Paul Gaultier. Now we already know that Jean Paul loves all women, no matter what size or age they have since even our curvy idol Velvet D’Amour was walking for him years ago.
But making a collection with Beth Ditto clearly is an amazing thing. The design they choosed is a t-shirt collection with the famous corset by Jean Paul Gaultier worn by Madonna – like in this link.
Sure the big t-shirt might not be figure-enhancing, but you can still ake it more tight in the back. Overall I must say the idea is great, funny and has a great fashion rock style. I would surely want to wear it!
GREAT THINGS HAPPENING IN GERMANY FOR 2016:
SILVANA DENKER’S #BODYLOVE CAMPAIGN CONTINUES AND GOES INTERNATIONAL
We already asked you to support the #BODYLOVE campaign by Silvana Denker. And the reason for this is that she needs to finance her trips all by herself. To make Silvana’s dream come true to go international show your support here.
Her campaign got international attention by the media already. This shows how much people want to see natural women. Therefore I am sure with our support she will change the minds of the people worldwide. And we totally want to see more news of #bodylove like in the collection below.
Plus Size Fashion Days already had a special award ceremony during the show in 2015. And I think it is a great idea to award the best blogger, the best fashion brand and the best plus size model national and international.
The show developed from a idea by CEO and Founder Tanja Marfo 3 years ago. I attented every show since then. I can tell you it got better every year. Therefore I am excited to see how much better it will become in 2016.
All the headlines from last year show that the fashion world finally recognizes plus size women as an important target. We are new hip and trendy, so either you follow us or use us for your promotion or you will be regarded as old-fashioned. And no teen likes old-fashioned stuff. The future for curvy women is bright and I am sure more brands will understand this in the near future!
Have a good time and always remember to love your body and love yourself,
Adele released her much-anticipated new album ’25’ today. But her album will not get released for streaming on big pages like Spotify. Spotify also confirmed that they won’t offer the album. I was wondering about the reason.
Here are some reasons why video streaming is not really good for an music artist:
I know we all love spotify and all the music it offers, but for the artists it’s not that much of an profit that they can expect. Sure the streaming pages argument with the many million of users, but the pay an artist gets per view if very little.
It also doesn’t help an artist to climb up the charts by offering their album for selling on their website only, because the numbers of sales can’t be counted in for the charts. So it is important for an artists to offer some song online to view for free or against a monthly fee, but it depends on which ones. Taylor Swift, for instance, decided to leave Spotify and got into an argument with Apple Music, because she didn’t agree that the artists can’t get paid during the three months free trial period and she won. Apple Music has to pay the artists even during that time.
The last reason for artists to not work with many streaming pages is that the sound is not having a good quality. Tidal might be more expensive than other streaming pages, but the quality of the sound is better there.
Adele herself choosed to keep the ‘Hello’ video online on youtube and VEVO and it is already the most viewed video in a month in a long time. Her album ’25’ is expected to become the best selling album of this year.
Elly Mayday talked in this feature for Style like U about the hard time she had after being diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer. I have never seen her more honest, more vulnerable and more brave than in this video.
A woman from the Netherlands said in this article: “She’s using her illness to get ahead in her career, pretty shameful really.” This comment shocked me so much and made me so angry that I had to write about it. Not for Style & Curve, but mainly about the stupidity of this woman. How can anyone assume a person would use a cancer illness to gain more money? She had stage 3 cancer and the chances to survive this were not good. Well, when something bothers me a lot I need to write about it. I felt sorry for Elly. She was such a positive person in her posts. Embracing her curves, giving other women hope.
But I am happy that this experience did not change her. She is a fighter and still giving hope to other curvy women. Plus she even got a chance to get better jobs after all the drama. For instance, the #ImNoAngel campaign by Lane Bryant.
So to all the haters and everyone else who keeps being negative, this women proved all of you wrong. There is some truth in the words: ‘what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger’ like it was sang by Kelly Clarkson.
