Elly Mayday talked in this feature for Style like U about the hard time she had after being diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer. I have never seen her more honest, more vulnerable and more brave than in this video.
She talked also about a moment when she got criticized for using her cancer sicknes to gain more money. Style & Curve shared this story after I read an article about her fight against cancer in the Daily Mail: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2543301/I-scars-no-hair-Meet-plus-size-model-ovarian-cancer-bold-new-lingerie-campaign-celebrating-completely-natural-body.html
A woman from the Netherlands said in this article: “She’s using her illness to get ahead in her career, pretty shameful really.” This comment shocked me so much and made me so angry that I had to write about it. Not for Style & Curve, but mainly about the stupidity of this woman. How can anyone assume a person would use a cancer illness to gain more money? She had stage 3 cancer and the chances to survive this were not good. Well, when something bothers me a lot I need to write about it. I felt sorry for Elly. She was such a positive person in her posts. Embracing her curves, giving other women hope.
But I am happy that this experience did not change her. She is a fighter and still giving hope to other curvy women. Plus she even got a chance to get better jobs after all the drama. For instance, the #ImNoAngel campaign by Lane Bryant.
So to all the haters and everyone else who keeps being negative, this women proved all of you wrong. There is some truth in the words: ‘what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger’ like it was sang by Kelly Clarkson.
Thank you for the great video Elly :*
