There was a boy
A very strange enchanted boy
They say he wandered very far, very far
Over land and sea
A little shy
And sad of eye
But very wise
And then one day
A magic day he passed my way
And while we spoke of many things, fools and kings
This he said to me
“The greatest thing
You’ll ever learn
Is just to love
And be loved
~ David Bowie
Long before Lady Gaga
there was a man who changed the music industry and the fashion industry. It was Ziggy Stardust
. The crazy, colourful imagination transformed into life by David Bowie. David Bowie
was one of the most successful stars of our time. He was making music for 40 years. And he was the chameleon of the music industry by constantly changing his look. He did not only made music, but he also told the story of the characters he created in this albums. But he also had an effect on the fashion industry. He was even c
rowned Most Stylish Briton In History by BBC History magazine.
On January 10 2016 this news was announced on his fanpage: “David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief.”
‘He was a poet and a troubadour; we knew his words and messages by heart and took them to heart, even if we were never entirely sure what they meant. But that was the point. He was cleverer than us. He knew things we didn’t.’ ~ Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman in his TRIBUNE for Vogue Magazine including a style gallerie.
Here are some links that show his style re-created by the fashion industry:
We know now that he died of liver cancer and that he was diagnosed with it more than a year ago. David wanted to survive this, since he wanted to see his daughter grow up. But unfortunatly, he lost his fight against cancer. David knew that he was going to die and he wanted to leave this world with a last album as a parting gift for his fans. He was not fit enough for the whole work on the album, but he didn’t want to give up. His album ‘Blackstar‘ was released on his birthday on January 8, 2016 and two days later he died. David was an exceptional artist and now you can even listen to the thoughts of a man before he dies in his new album and his new song Lazarus.
I got to know his music through his song Thursday’s Child. And then I stared to also listen to his older songs and felt in love with the songs ‘This is not America’, ‘Let’s Dance’, ‘Under Pressure’ with Queen and ‘Starman’. I cant even imagine growing up without his songs. I guess I love ‘Thursday’s Child’ so much, because I am born on a Thursday or because I love this sadness in the song.
