Curvaceous vision – through a man’s world

I am Justin J. White, a fearless soul lover of Plus-Size women, the look beyond my eyes that reaches into my soul gave me an insight to what I desire, and seeing these women all around me motivates me to talk about them.

The Plus-Size industry longed for this success — when will we see Plus-Size models on the front of well-known magazine covers? One that over emphasises that for woman to look beautiful she must look a particular way, perhaps slender with long legs and hardly any meat on her bones which was somewhat, “The industry standard.” Not in my eyes, there was no substance and no chemistry that allowed these comely women to aspire towards that direction, self-destruction is what I call it. As you know, the size 0 to 6 hip/waistline which was the industry standard and anything above was considered Plus-Size. Well, let me keep it real, Plus-Size with “Childbearing hips,” is not sinful however, what defines a real woman is being the gender of a woman and not by the size of her body.

Plus-Size women did not let the industry kill their vibe, they hanged on in there, pushed through with confidence which brought them to the level of becoming fearless strutting down the aisle with strong looks on their faces. They were on a whole new level and still are, creating their own shows, developing sexy well-fitted clothes that wrap perfectly around their bodies. Just a little more pushing for the voluptuous women and one came through, that was Ashley Graham who is now on the Swimsuit issue cover magazine. It was very hard, a lot of work, blood sweat and tears — not literally, although you know what I mean do not get your undies in a twist, there is more to come, and let us hope it will not be long until we see another Plus-Size curvaceous queen hit the catalogue. Victoria’s secret perhaps? Who knows but it is coming, I believe it will, I have faith, that one day all women will be treated equally regardless of the size of their waistline, and let us not forget their height, but that is another story. Until then, let us praise the queens of the curves who sit on the opposite end of the throne, who are not scared to parade regardless of what barriers are up against them.

Furthermore, this is why I love Plus-Size women, because they are not afraid to be the sassy-strong women they desire to be with the criticism around, they are not afraid of what it takes for people to accept them for who they are. They will not change for anyone, even if it takes for them to be subjected to a dense category of different women blocked off from the whole entire world, they will still strive for what they believe in.

Strong is bold, strong is confident, strong is sexy, and that’s why I will always be attracted to their inner and outer persona.

As someone who is already a fan of his book and who admires his writing, I am happy to have him in my team. Justin can write about all kind of topics from a man’s view, which will surely be interesting to read. Furthermore, as a personal trainer he can even bring in his knowledge on fitness and a healthy lifestyle.

Cheers,

KENDALL JENNER THE NEW SUPERMODEL – IS VOGUE IN SUCH A BIG NEED OF MONEY? AND WHY DON’T THEY SHOW PLUS MODELS?

Seven days ago Vogue magazine announced to publish a special edition about Kendall Jenner, and only about Kendall!

If the world’s most successful fashion magazine decides to praise one certain model in a whole issue, then this only means that she is the top model of the world. The last time models were praised this much was during the supermodel era. So for Ana Wintour, Kendall Jenner is today’s SUPERMODEL. But is this only due to her 68 Million followers across her social media pages?

Vogue even published this article written by Robert Sullivan: “How Kendall Jenner Stays Grounded With 68 Million Followers and Counting” – below are some quotes from it which I want to discuss:

She is a very sweet person,” Karl Lagerfeld says. “Very caring and not at all spoiled by those superficial successes. I must say I love her.”

Kors said. “She’s sophisticated but laid-back. She’s both. She’s chic. She’s the Ali MacGraw for the Instagram generation. I remember when Ali first hit in Love Story, every girl in the world wanted to wear her hat. Kendall is Ali times a zillion.”

Last year, Estée Lauder launched a Kendall Jenner–inspired red-orange lipstick called Restless. “It was the number-one most successful lipstick on our Web site,” said Jane Hertzmark Hudis, group president of the Estée Lauder Companies.

“Her social-media reach is just incredible,” says Francisco Costa of Calvin Klein.

Kendall talking about good posts for Instagram: …“it has to be organic.”…“You don’t want to do too many posts,” she said. “You want to leave them wanting to come back.” She summed up this secret in one word. “Mystery!”

…first I should say what’s organic about her. She works hard when she’s with a photographer (see the way she locks on the lens), she is very concerned with punctuality (“I’m on time—I got that from my dad,” she says)

When I asked her to define an organic post, she said, “It means you can’t totally plan it out.”

Remember: In the world we live in today, being a celebrity is itself a business—with places to be, posts to make, people to meet. In the old days, a company wanted a celebrity on its side because she related to its image, what we now call its brand. Today, someone like Kendall is a brand. And companies don’t just want an association; they want her followers. It’s gone from a sleepover to a marriage.

“I’m aware of the incredible opportunity I’ve been given by coming into this business,” she texted me later. “I mean, I’ve dreamed of being a part of this my whole life.”

Read the reactions below to the special issue news and to the many posts about Kendall on their Facebook page; comments are not chronological order:

‘When did vouge become all about the kardashians I thought vouge was all about style and haute couture fashion

Kate Moss is a supermodel, Cindy, Claudia, Naomi and Linda are supermodels!!!! Kendall Jenner is NOT a supermodel, you’d think being a fashion magazine, you’d know

Why?!!!! There are so many talented models that deserve it

Glad to see that money can still buy you your career

Seriously stop about this posts about Jenner. Oh wait, you’re receiving money so you can say she’s a supermodel of our time. You’re trash vogue. I lost respect.

Unfollowing as of now. We don’t need another rag following this hideous family about and reporting on their every bowel movement. I thought Vogue was about fashion. Not anymore obviously.

When did Vogue become the crappy version of TMZ?? No news on fashion just news on what the Kardashians et al are doing. RIP Vogue.

Answer: When Ana decided to put celebrities on the cover instead of Models. Thanks Ana!

lmao no way she’s a supermodel, she’s just rich have you seen her catwalk? its horrendous.

Anyone one with that much money Can be super model right!?

Whoopdy damn doo. How about photos of normal women with real jobs having a sleepover in Chanel Couture? Bored of seeing the same children over and over.

Vogue is supposed to be the fashion leader not the sheep!!

What I do find disappointing is that @vogue doesn’t actually reply to any of the comments their readers are posting – and that’s not just bad manners, it’s bad PR.

Coco Chanel is rolling in her grave.

Vogue needs her followers. What happened Vogue? It is supposed to be starlets need vogue, not the other way around.

From trend-setter to trend-follower.’

It is obvious that the fans do not like Kendall or the Kardashian’s at all, but that doesn’t bother the magazine. Anna Wintour voiced in November 2014 about the cover of Kim Kardashian:

Anna-Wintour-Kanye-Kim

“If we just remain deeply tasteful and just put deeply tasteful people on the cover, it would be a rather boring magazine! Nobody would talk about us. It’s very important that people do talk about us.”

My Conclusion:

I still don’t know what to think of Kendall Jenner as the new supermodel. She got famous through her family’s show, prompting herself to become a model. She learned everything she needs to become a successful model; changing her image from a spoilt child to a nice, hard-working and girl-next-door figure. But she can never get rid of the ‘Kardashian effigy’. That image helped her get her 68 Million followers. She was a star before she started to model, yet she is the first supermodel hated by many people. The hate and envy she receives is the motor of her career, and I cannot remember any supermodel throughout history who has managed to become more successful from the envy people have towards her. We follow her on Instagram to follow her super-rich lifestyle and her newest model pictures make us become speechless. Surely she is a great model, but to me it is not enough to be the best only because of the millions of followers. However, Vogue thinks differently about this: ‘In the world we live in today, being a celebrity is itself a business—with places to be, posts to make, people to meet. In the old days, a company wanted a celebrity on its side because she related to its image, what we now call its brand. Today, someone like Kendall is a brand. And companies don’t just want an association; they want her followers. It’s gone from a sleepover to a marriage.’ Furthermore,  here is what you need as the future supermodel:

  1. MILLIONS OF FOLLOWERS – All you need is a high number of people who follow you. How you manage that doesn’t matter at all; you can even buy the likes. If you are in a TV show then it’s even better, because more people will get to know you. Then you just need to get yourself in a scandal, or in a controversy where more people will follow you ‘organically’ (meaning, you don’t need to buy the likes).
  2. To become a BRAND – You are already on TV, you already created a controversy about your person; one doesn’t know if they should hate or love you. Well done, this is the best place to ask companies to promote them on your page. And yes, you can ask for money from every simple Instagram promotion, for instance, Kendall’s sisters Kim, Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian recently got sued by a company who invested 10 Million in their struggling Kardashian Beauty Brand: ‘As we previously reported, the Kardashians originally partnered up with a company called Boldface in 2012, launching a makeup line called “Khroma Beauty.” Problem was … a year later, a judge blocked the company from using the name “Khroma.” The girls changed the name to “Kardashian Beauty,” but Boldface started tanking. Hillair Capital Management was then buying out Boldface and sinking $10 mil into the business. Hillair now claims the Kardashian girls didn’t hold up their end of the bargain by blasting out the virtues of “Kardashian Beauty” to their millions of followers.  Hillair wants its $10 mil back plus what they would have made … up to $180 mil.’: http://www.tmz.com/2016/03/21/kim-khloe-kourtney-kardashian-sued-beauty-company/#ixzz44K3kbzLs THIS MEANS THAT THE SISTERS WOULD HAVE EARNED UP TO 180 MILLION BY SIMPLE SOCIAL MEDIA POSTINGS.
  3. Become an ENTREPRENEUR – Once you have millions of followers and you become your own brand, all you need to do is make more money and to become better in what you do. This is what Kendall did, and even if she is just 20 years old, she is already on top, due to her 68 million followers and her disciplined work ethic. Her good looks also helped her.

Welcome to the new model world, where you can only become a supermodel if you have many people follow you on Instagram, and Vogue supports this, because if they didn’t create a controversy then less people would talk about them. I wonder if Vogue magazine thought that they didn’t have enough important material to publish that they needed the Kardashian/Jenner clan to guarantee sales. It looks like there are no other interesting or controversial topics anymore.

HOW ABOUT ADDING SOME PLUS MODELS TO THE FASHION SCENE? Big CONTROVERSY!!!!!! I know you guys from Vogue Magazine only want to consider what could potentially make you money. And regarding the plus models, you don’t need to think about the numbers of their followers. These ladies have a whole plus size community following them, which can beat the whole Kardashian/Jenner clan fans. Why aren’t you considering putting a plus model on the cover? I am not talking about Ashley Graham or Tess Holliday here, I am talking of more likeable models such as Danielle van Grondelle: ‘Danielle started at the age of 14 in the modeling industry as a straightsized model before breaking out into the plus modeling industry and becoming Holland’s first curvy topmodel. Danielle has been immersed in the world of fashion non-stop, studying fashion design at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, The Netherlands. The first Dutch plus size model to walk the New York Fashion week, and has worked all over the world for magazines like Avantgarde,Vogue, Cosmopolitan and many more. A champion of body positivity, confidence, and self-image from day 1, Danielle has been speaking across media outlets on the subject of not being your own worst critic and embracing your own true beauty.’ Danielle is a beautiful and an incomparably curvy model. See our gallery of her below:

What do we need in the fashion industry, more news from the Kardashian/Jenner clan, or do we need some ground-breaking news by making a plus model like Danielle von Grondelle or another plus model the cover of Vogue?

Danielle would be a great match for the first plus model on the cover of Vogue Magazine. Does anyone else agree?

Kind regards,

LYZ LUPO

MUSICIAN AND STYLE ICON DAVID BOWIE DIED FROM CANCER AGED 69

“Nature Boy

There was a boy
A very strange enchanted boy
They say he wandered very far, very far
Over land and sea
A little shy
And sad of eye
But very wise
Was he
And then one day
A magic day he passed my way
And while we spoke of many things, fools and kings
This he said to me
“The greatest thing
You’ll ever learn
Is just to love
And be loved
In return”
  ~ David Bowie
Long before Lady Gaga there was a man who changed the music industry and the fashion industry. It was Ziggy Stardust. The crazy, colourful imagination transformed into life by David Bowie. David Bowie was one of the most successful stars of our time.  He was making music for 40 years. And he was the chameleon of the music industry by constantly changing his look. He did not only made music, but he also told the story of the characters he created in this albums. But he also had an effect on the fashion industry. He was even crowned Most Stylish Briton In History by BBC History magazine.
On January 10 2016 this news was announced on his fanpage: “David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief.”

‘He was a poet and a troubadour; we knew his words and messages by heart and took them to heart, even if we were never entirely sure what they meant. But that was the point. He was cleverer than us. He knew things we didn’t.’ ~ Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman in his TRIBUNE for Vogue Magazine including a style gallerie.

Here are some links that show his style re-created by the fashion industry:

We know now that he died of liver cancer and that he was diagnosed with it more than a year ago. David wanted to survive this, since he wanted to see his daughter grow up. But unfortunatly, he lost his fight against cancer. David knew that he was going to die and he wanted to leave this world with a last album as a parting gift for his fans. He was not fit enough for the whole work on the album, but he didn’t want to give up. His album ‘Blackstar‘ was released on his birthday on January 8, 2016 and two days later he died. David was an exceptional artist and now you can even listen to the thoughts of a man before he dies in his new album and his new song Lazarus.
I got to know his music through his song Thursday’s Child. And then I stared to also listen to his older songs and felt in love with the songs ‘This is not America’, ‘Let’s Dance’, ‘Under Pressure’ with Queen and ‘Starman’. I cant even imagine growing up without his songs. I guess I love ‘Thursday’s Child’ so much, because I am born on a Thursday or because I love this sadness in the song.
Here are the links of my favorite songs:

Sleep well Mr STARMAN and thank you for all your inspiration – you will never be forgotten!

2015 WAS A ROCKING YEAR FOR THE CURVY REVOLUTION, BUT 2016 WILL BE MORE SUCCESSFUL!

The year 2015 was already a great year for curvy women. So many things happend that we never thought were possible a few years ago. But they happened and they changed important things regarding the perception of curvy women.

FIRST LET’S SEE WHAT HAPPENED IN 2015:

ASHLEY PART 1 – ASHLEY GRAHAM WAS THE FIRST PLUS SIZE MODEL TO BE FEATURED IN SPORTS ILLUSTRATED

Ashley Graham said about this achievement:

‘I know my curves are sexy and I want everyone else to know that theirs are too.

‘There is no reason to hide and every reason to flaunt. The world is ready for more curves in bikinis.

‘Swimsuitsforall helps women feel confident and sexy in swimsuits and I am so thrilled to be a part of the Curves in Bikinis campaign!’ ~Daily Mail

Even though Ashley was only seen on an advert in the magazine and her fellow model Robyn Lawley became the first official curvy model to work for Sports Illustrated Swimsuit, for me her breackthrough is more important since she is bigger than Robyn.

ASHLEY PART 2 – ASHLEY GRAHAM COLLECTION ON THE NEW YORK FASHION WEEK FOR ADDITION ELLE

Ashley Graham has since a few years her own collection with Addition Elle and in the year 2015 she appeared with this collection also at the New York Fashion Week:

Now some people might hint out that this is not high fashion and these things don’t belong to the New York Fashion Week. I disagree! Every company that can pay the price of being part of the NY Fashion Week has to gain our respect for that, because it is a really expensive investment. And they would not be the only company making an overpriced show just to sell later “cheap” clothes. Just think about the money Victoria Secret spends on their show each year. The most expensive item on the show is only a bra with diamonds on it. The other lingerie is actually very cheap – just look at their website: https://www.victoriassecret.com/.

ASHLEY PART 3 -#IMNOANGEL & #PLUSISEQUAL BY LANE BRYANT

Let’s face it, Ashley Graham is the TOP CURVY MODEL of our time! She was already in the news with her first lingerie advertisement years ago, which was banned later. And she will always be in the news with any new campaign or collection she is doing, because she works with the right companies who know you need a message to sell your products. Lane Bryant is one of these great companies who had two important campaigns running to increase the media attention for plus size women. With these campaigns all the big magazines wrote about her, even the Vogue Magazine.

This news was, for a model like me, just great to read. Tess Holliday is as tall as I am with almost the same size and she still got signed by Milk Model Management Agency. Robyn Lawley is also under this UK agency. So she is in good company! Tess is the plus model with the most likes on all social media pages, because she is not scared to be controversial. She might get bullied a lot, but this is what helped her to succeed!

#BEACHBODYNOTSORRY WITH DENISE BIDOT FOR SWIMSUITSFORALL

After the #CURVESINABIKINI campaign with Ashley Graham, Swimsuits For All decided to make another campaign called #BEACHBODYNOTSORRY. They choosed for this curvy model Denise Bidot and showed a promo of her without any editing of the skin. They showed her natural body. We have to accept that every curvy body has flaws like cellulitis. But this doesn’t mean that a model like Denise is less good. She has proved for many years that she is a great model!

“There is no wrong way to be a woman” ~ Denise Bidot

See here our former post about the campaign here. And here is our album on facebook of fans supporting the campaign.

How cool was it to see plus size models walking at the New York Fashion Week for the Project Runway show. But it got even better, because plus size designer Ashley Nell Tipton even won in the end.

“It’s nice to see how much the mainstream fashion community has been so accepting of it,” ….”It’s very exciting to see that folks finally want to make plus-size mainstream.”~Skorch Magazine and People Magazine

I was happy to see curve models I know, like Liris Crosse, Danielle van Grondelle, Chloe Marshall and Lornalitz Baez, walking the stage.

See all the pics here.

ADELE COMEBACK AND HER COVER ON THE TIME MAGAZINE

Adele had her comeback finally after all those years of being outside the public. Adele does not only have one of the best voices from the UK, but she is also already a plus size celebrity icon and I was so happy to see that she is back. Her song “HELLO” is still everywhere in the news and I know some of you can’t even hear it anymore. Well, I don’t care. Her album was breaking selling records already in the first week.  She even managed to get her first Time Magazine cover, so her comeback is a huge success after all.

GREAT THINGS THAT ALREADY HAPPENED IN 2015 BUT THAT WILL ALSO EFFECT 2016:

AMY SCHUMER AND SERENA WILLIAMS FEATURED IN THE PIRELLI CALENDAR

How cool was the decision of Pirelli to do something new for their calendar 2016. They choosed not to feature models as usuall. This time they choosed to feature the most inspiring women of the world. Women of all ages and races like comedian Amy Schumer, athlete Serena Williams, artist Yoko Ono, model and philanthropist Natalia Vodianova, actress Yao Chen who has over 70 Million followers on her chinese website. They all got photographed by Annie Leibovitz.

I loved the most that they showed the women in a natural and rather simple photographic way to show their natural personality. Especially the picture of Amy Schumer is ground-breacking in the fashion world. For so many years we are used to photoshop all flaws of women. And even women who didn’t like their body wanted to get photoshopped. But Amy Schumer didn’t mind to show her natural stomach. It only shows that it is all natural to have a stomach nowadays. Watch also the Behind the Scene video:

CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN CASTS CURVY MODEL CLEMENTINE DESSEAUX

A natural beauty in #LouboutinCharme. @bonjourclem @lesmijotes 🎥 @mvonthron

A video posted by Christian Louboutin (@louboutinworld) on

Now a lot of great things happened already this year for curvy models, but having a model Clementine Desseaux as the face of the beauty range Rouge Louboutin by Christian Louboutin is almost ground-breacking. Critics said that it doesn’t matter if she became the face of the lipstick promo, because she only has to feature her face not her body. But I have to say that it is a great achievement for a curvy model. Clementine’s unique look with her curves and her freckles symbolizes in a perfect way natural beauty. And even if she doesn’t show her curves in this spot you can still see a face of a size 14 model and not a size 0 model. I think that Christian Louboutin made the most perfect choice to have her as the rolemodel for his beauty brand.

BETH DITTO DESIGNS HER FIRST PLUS SIZE CLOTHING LINE WITH JEAN PAUL GAULTIER

Just before the year 2015 was over the next amazing headline appeared. And I thought it can’t get any better. I am glad that I was wrong. Beth Ditto announced that she will bring out her own first plus size collection in co-operation with Jean Paul Gaultier. Now we already know that Jean Paul loves all women, no matter what size or age they have since even our curvy idol Velvet D’Amour was walking for him years ago.

But making a collection with Beth Ditto clearly is an amazing thing. The design they choosed is a t-shirt collection with the famous corset by Jean Paul Gaultier worn by Madonna – like in this link.

Sure the big t-shirt might not be figure-enhancing, but you can still  ake it more tight in the back. Overall I must say the idea is great, funny and has a great fashion rock style. I would surely want to wear it!

CURVY FASHION FAIR STARS THE YEAR 2016 WITH NEW FEATURES

The Curvy Fashion Fair Berlin always takes place during the Fashion Week Berlin. I also attented the fair two years ago, because it offeres you to get to know many plus size brands directly at the event. The Curvy Fashion Fair is an established internation curvy fashion 3-days event, that advaces constantly.

So, if you want to get to know the people behind all the top selling plus size fashion brands, then you need to attend the event also. This year the fair even features 14 new brands and it also has a curvy young designer startup show during the event. To find out more about the event follow this link.

PLUS SIZE FASHION DAYS SHOW AND AWARDS 2016

image93

Plus Size Fashion Days already had a special award ceremony during the show in 2015. And I think it is a great idea to award the best blogger, the best fashion brand and the best plus size model national and international.

The show developed from a idea by CEO and Founder Tanja Marfo 3 years ago. I attented every show since then. I can tell you it got better every year. Therefore I am excited to see how much better it will become in 2016.

CONCLUSION

All the headlines from last year show that the fashion world finally recognizes plus size women as an important target. We are new hip and trendy, so either you follow us or use us for your promotion or you will be regarded as old-fashioned. And no teen likes old-fashioned stuff. The future for curvy women is bright and I am sure more brands will understand this in the near future!

Have a good time and always remember to love your body and love yourself,
